A Heft is a place on the fell (a boundary with no fences) where sheep are ‘hefted’ because they are taught a sense of belonging by their mothers. Stretching back centuries, this knowledge is passed from ewe to lamb each year and has never been broken.
A favourite of Bassys, the light and airy feel of the Heft can’t help but lift the spirits. In rain or shine (..snow, wind or hail- you are in the Lake District!), the Heft is a perfect haven.
